Breaching humpbacks off the coast in Coogee, Australia, during the migration season. The powerful splash created by a breach can be heard from great distances underwater, helping them communicate with other whales. It also helps them dislodge parasites and other organisms from their skin.

A mother creates a big splash using her tail.

Calves begin practicing to breach just weeks after birth, likely to build muscle, communicate, or remove parasites.
